Embroidery stitch time calculator
Estimate stitching time from stitch count, machine speed, color changes and setup.
How to use it
Find the stitch count on the design listing or the machine screen.
Enter your machine’s maximum speed and a realistic efficiency (start around 70–85% and adjust after timing a sample).
Add color changes, minutes per change and your hooping/finishing time.
The formula
Stitching time = stitches ÷ (speed × efficiency ÷ 100). Then add thread changes × minutes per change, plus setup and finishing. The default efficiency is an editable assumption, not a benchmark.
Use your own sample
Short stitches, trims, bobbin changes and interruptions can slow a design. Time a sample and use the result to adjust efficiency. Do not promise a delivery time from maximum machine speed. More in how long does machine embroidery take?
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate embroidery time?
Divide the stitch count by the effective stitches per minute (maximum speed × an efficiency factor), then add time for thread changes and for hooping, setup and finishing. 12,000 stitches at an effective 480 spm is 25 minutes of stitching.
Why is my machine slower than its maximum speed?
Maximum speed is a ceiling. Short stitches, jumps, trims, slow sections such as satin columns and lettering, and thread breaks all reduce real output. Time a sample to find your own efficiency.
How many stitches is a typical design?
It varies widely with size and density. Small monograms can be a few thousand stitches; dense filled designs can run tens of thousands. The stitch count is listed in most design downloads and on the machine screen.
