Embroidery hoop fit checker
Check your design dimensions against a machine embroidery field, with rotation.
How to use it
Pick your machine (or enter a custom field size in millimeters).
Enter the stitched design width and height from the design listing or software, in mm or inches.
Read the result. If it only fits rotated, rotate the design on screen before stitching.
What this checks
Only the design’s bounding rectangle against the usable embroidery field, with a 90-degree rotation allowed. It does not inspect a file, validate stitches or prove that a particular accessory hoop attaches. Confirm stitch count, format and saved hoop in your model manual.
Use exact dimensions
The nominal 4 × 4 inch field is 100 × 100 mm, not 101.6 × 101.6 mm. The 5 × 7 inch class is 130 × 180 mm. Measure the stitched design, not the fabric. Learn more in 4 × 4 vs 5 × 7: what fits?
Frequently asked questions
Is a 4 × 4 hoop exactly 4 inches?
Not usually. Brother describes its 4 × 4 class field as 100 × 100 mm, while 4 inches is 101.6 mm. A design saved at exactly 4.00 × 4.00 inches can be slightly too large, so check millimeters.
Does the hoop size or the embroidery field matter?
The embroidery field (sewing area) is the limit. The outside of the hoop is larger than the area the needle can reach, so always compare the design to the field.
Can I rotate a design to make it fit?
Often, yes. A 170 × 120 mm design does not fit 130 × 180 mm as drawn but does after a 90° rotation. Most home machines can rotate designs on screen; check placement before stitching.
If the design fits, will it definitely stitch?
Not necessarily. The machine also checks stitch count, file format and version, and the hoop saved in the file. This tool only checks geometry.
